حوإ¼½م½م’s receives national honor for student engagement in 2022 midterm elections

On September 10, the  (ALL IN) recognized حوإ¼½م½م for its nonpartisan democratic engagement efforts that fostered high levels of student voter engagement in the 2022 midterm elections. حوإ¼½م½م’s received the Platinum Campus Award — the second highest level of recognition — reflecting their commitment to ensuring that nonpartisan democratic engagement is a defining feature of حوإ¼½م½م’s campus life. The Civic Engagement Collective, housed within the Center for Community Work and Learning, is an important part of حوإ¼½م½م’s civic engagement and played a vital role in the increased voter participation that ALL IN recognized with this award.

The ALL IN challenge empowers colleges and universities to achieve excellence in nonpartisan student democratic engagement. حوإ¼½م½م’s was recognized for midterm election engagement alongside more than 500 campuses using data from the  out of Tufts University. The study found that colleges and universities had the second-highest vote turnout among students in a midterm election since NSLVE began measuring this data. 

“I am so impressed with the many students, faculty, and staff committed to ensuring that our campus provides our students with information and education, so that one can activate their right to vote, as well as promoting other democratic practices and learning across the academic year,â€‌ said D’Ann Urbaniak Lesch, assistant vice president for engaged learning and director of the Office of Scholarly Engagement.

Previously, ALL IN recognized حوإ¼½م½م’s as a part of the 2022 ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting. The University joined a group of 394 colleges and universities in completing four actions:

  • Participated in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge
  • Shared 2020 NSLVE Reports with campus voting data with ALL IN
  • Developed and submitted a 2022 engagement action plan with ALL IN
  • Have a current signatory to ALL IN’s 

“The ALL IN Awards were created to celebrate nonpartisan democratic engagement and the outstanding campus voter registration and turnout rates achieved by our ALL IN campuses. Ahead of the 2024 elections, ALL IN campuses are ready to build on the momentum from 2022 to ensure their communities are ready to make an even bigger impact this fall,â€‌ said Jennifer Domogal-Goldman, executive director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “ALL IN is proud to celebrate and honor top-performing campuses, like حوإ¼½م½م, who demonstrate that nonpartisan student voter engagement is possible and effective.â€‌

More than 1,060 institutions enrolling more than 10 million students participate in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, which supports colleges and universities in achieving excellence in nonpartisan student voter engagement.

Facilitated by the Center for Community Work and Learning, the Civic Engagement Collective (CEC) is a group of faculty, staff, and students that promote civic engagement in the حوإ¼½م½م’s community and aims to create a vibrant, engaging, and respectful political climate on campus. Through providing various nonpartisan resources and guides, the group ensures university community members know how to register and where to vote and are fully informed about the candidates and political issues. The CEC also focuses on the importance of civic engagement beyond elections and promotes democratic practices and learning throughout the academic year.
