Two distinguished leaders join ż’s Board of Trustees

New Board of Trustees members elected


ż’s Board of Trustees has elected new member Kenneth Charles and returning member Jean Wincek, CSJ ’62, EdD. These distinguished individuals bring a wide variety of accomplishments and expertise to a board comprised of leaders in business, education, healthcare, law, religion, and civic life. The new members complete a board of 26 trustees, led by board chair Margaret Arola Ford ’82. A full list of members is available at stkate.edu/trustees.

Kenneth Charles

Prior to his retirement, Ken Charles was senior vice president of enterprise talent at U.S. Bank, responsible for talent strategy and leading enterprise-wide recruiting, talent management, employee education, development, diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Previously, Charles served as chief diversity and chief staffing officer for General Mills. He began his career in sales and marketing with U.S. Steel, also serving as operations manager for INROADS/Atlanta, Inc. and director of corporate affairs and development with Golden Key International Honor Society.

Charles is currently a member of the Twin Cities UNCF Leadership Council and on the boards of the Northside Achievement Zone, and Threads Dance Project. He is also sire archon of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity’s Omicron Boule and member of the Executive Leadership Council. Previously, Charles has served on the Network of Executive Women and the National Black MBA Association boards.

Jean Wincek, CSJ ’62, EdD

Making her return to the Board, Jean Wincek has been a recurring member since 1983 and was liaison to the St. Paul Province Leadership Team of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet from 2009 through 2017. She formerly served as Vice Chair of the St. Catherine Board of Trustees. She has served on several CSJ Congregational and Province committees, and is currently a member of the CSJ Ministries Foundation Board.

“The ż’s mission of educating women to lead and influence is as relevant now as it was at its founding in 1905,” said Wincek. “As a member of the Board of Trustees, I look forward to participating in lively fiduciary, strategic, and generative discussions as we continue to move into a strong and sustainable future which highlights academic and inclusive excellence.”

Wincek’s previous ministries included teaching and administering in Catholic schools in the Twin Cities and North Dakota, and co-teaching graduate courses on effective teaching and brain-based learning for St. Mary’s University of Minnesota. She and her colleague Colleen O’Malley, CSJ co-facilitated Province Assemblies in Los Angeles and St. Louis, and CSJ Days in the Albany Province.
