Timelines and Deadlines
For most programs* offered in the College for Adults, new students may begin their enrollment in the fall, spring or summer terms, with the following application deadlines:
- January 1 (Spring): Spring 2025 classes begin January 29
- May 1 (Summer): Summer 2025 classes begin May 27
- August 1 (Fall): Fall 2025 classes begin August 25
*application deadlines, starting terms, and other admission details may vary for programs such as Community Health Worker, Occupational Therapy Assistant, and Radiation Therapy. See the program-specific sections below for more information.
Applications may be submitted throughout the year. Completed applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and candidates usually receive an admission decision within 2-3 weeks.
Some programs and courses will fill up prior to the start of each term. We strongly encourage applicants to submit their materials at least two months before the deadline to ensure that there is enough time to apply for financial aid, and for best course availability during registration.
General Eligibility and Application Requirements
Enrollment in the College for Adults is open to citizens and residents of the United States. International students wishing to study at ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ă’s fully online from their country of residence may apply for our online-designated programs. International students seeking an F-1 or other temporary visa to study in the United States are not eligible to apply to our College for Adult programs. For international women seeking F-1/visa-eligible enrollment, please review the programs available in our College for Women.
To be considered for admission in the College for Adults, applicants must have completed a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED), or an equivalent credential if completed outside of the United States.
In addition to submitting the College for Adults application form, please provide the following:
Transcripts
Request official transcripts from all post-high school educational institutions (colleges, technical schools, trade schools, etc.) previously attended, whether or not credits were earned. If you previously completed coursework at ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ă, you will not need to request your ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ă’s transcript.
If applicable, also submit an official CLEP, AP or similar examination score report.
An official high school transcript is required for applicants who are currently enrolled in high school. If the high school (or GED) program is already completed, an official transcript is required only for applicants who have completed fewer than 12 transferable college credits. To be considered transferable, courses must have been completed:
- at a regionally accredited institution
- at the college level (not preparatory level)
- with a grade of C- or higher (or Pass/Satisfactory, if not taken for a letter grade).
Credits taken as part of a valid PSEO program during high school may be applicable; credits earned via Advanced Placement (AP) or other testing options are not applicable to waive the high school/GED transcript requirement.
Explanatory Statement (if applicable)
If your cumulative undergraduate GPA is below a 2.0 (on a 4.0 scale) please address the following in the personal statement section of the application form:
- What challenges did you previously have that affected your ability to do well in school?
- How have things changed? How do you plan to fit school into your life now?
- Do you have support to be in school from your employer and your family (as it applies)?

Credential Evaluation (if applicable)
For courses, credentials, or degrees completed from an institution outside of the United States: In order to be considered for transfer credits and/or to determine U.S. degree equivalency, a course-by-course evaluation is required. This evaluation must be done by a credential evaluation agency approved by ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ă, such as or , or another . Any document in a language other than English must be accompanied by an English translation from a certified translator. Applicants are not allowed to translate their own documents.
It may take longer to obtain international documents, so we recommend that you begin your application process 6-9 months before beginning your studies at ÍćĹĽ˝ă˝ă’s.
Language Assessment (if applicable)
Applicants for whom English is not their native language may be required to provide an assessment of their English language ability through submission of scores from one of the following: with a minimum score of 61 on the internet-based exam or 500 on the paper-based exam (the University TOEFL code is 6105); with a minimum score of 6.0; or the with a minimum score of 85.
The College for Adults Admission Committee reserves the right to require additional information (updated transcripts, official state GED, admission essay, personal interview, etc.) other than what is listed above, if it is deemed necessary in order to make a final admission decision.

The Community Health Worker Certificate program is open to all students; no previous coursework or credential is required.
The Certificate program is offered in a fully online format and can be completed in 6-9 months, depending on the starting term. Students may begin the program in the Spring or Fall semesters (a summer start is not available).
The application deadline for Spring 2025 enrollment is January 1. The deadline for Fall 2025 enrollment will be determined in early 2025.

The Early Childhood Education undergraduate options include bachelor’s degree and certificate plans of study. Some options have specific requirements for eligibility (see below for more information).
The Early Childhood Education courses are offered in a fully online format. Student teaching experiences are completed in-person at a school in or near your community. Licensure students who do not hold a Montessori credential also complete a portion of their methods courses in person during summers on our St. Paul campus.

- no previous college credit should enroll in the associate degree option.
- a small number of college credits should consult with an admission counselor to review whether a different major option would better meet their goals.
- a large number of college credits should consult with an admission counselor prior to application, to create a liberal studies plan of study that will meet their goals.

The nursing bachelor’s program is open to individuals with no previous nursing education, or for current CNAs or LPNs.
The program is offered in a hybrid format, with both online and in-person classes that meet on our St. Paul campus. For women interested in a daytime, fully campus-based program (or for international women seeking F-1/visa-eligible enrollment) please review the Nursing program in our College for Women.
Students are admitted to the University on a pre-Nursing track to begin prerequisite and liberal arts courses in the fall, spring or summer terms. After enrollment, a separate application is required to be admitted into the Nursing major sequence; students will work with their academic advisor to complete the major application process. Please note that admission as a pre-Nursing student does not guarantee progression into the Nursing major.
State-level restrictions
Due to state-level regulations, we are unable to enroll students in the Nursing program who will be residing in any of the following states while enrolled in the program: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. This restriction also includes individuals who will be residing in Canada.

The program is offered in a fully online format. One course includes some face-to-face clinical practice experiences; students work with faculty to identify locations in their community.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) associate degree is open to all students; no previous coursework or credential is required. The OTA courses are offered in a fully online format. In-person skills labs are completed at in the following states: California, Minnesota, Texas, Virginia.
Students are admitted to the University on a pre-OTA track to begin prerequisite and liberal arts courses in the fall, winter or summer terms. After enrollment, a separate application is required to be admitted into the OTA major sequence; students will work with their academic advisor to complete the major application process. The Radiation Therapy 2nd bachelor’s degree program is open to individuals who have previously completed a bachelor’s degree in any major other than Radiography.
The Radiation Therapy courses are offered in an online format (both synchronous and asynchronous); in-person clinical training sites are located across the Twin Cities metro area.
Students begin the program in the Fall semester. Applications must be completed within the Radiation Therapy enrollment cycle:
Fall 2025: October 1, 2024 – April 1, 2025
Students must have all prerequisite courses completed or in progress by the April 1 application deadline. An unofficial transcript must be provided to document any in-progress courses, which must be completed no later than the Spring semester prior to enrollment. Prerequisite courses include:
- BIOL 2400: General Anatomy and Physiology (4 credits)
- INDI 2220: Medical Terminology (2 credits) or
 IPE 1030: Healthcare Teams Foundations and Medical Terminology (2 credits)
- PHIL 3400: Biomedical Ethics (or Ethics) (4 credits)
- PSYC 1000: General Psychology (4 credits)
- Select one of the following (4 credits):
- College Algebra
- MATH 1090: Precalculus
- MATH 1130: Calculus I
- STAT 1090: Statistical Analysis (or other approved statistics course)

In addition to the application form and transcripts, students are required to provide documentation of 12 hours of observation/shadowing in a radiation therapy clinic or department; hours must be completed by the April 1 deadline. Completed applications will be reviewed after the enrollment cycle closes on April 1; qualified candidates will be contacted to schedule a required virtual interview with the Radiation Therapy admission committee. Decision letters will be sent to applicants in early May.

The Radiation Therapy bachelor’s degree program is open to individuals who do not have a bachelor’s degree but have previously completed an associate degree in Radiography.
The Radiation Therapy courses are offered in an online format (both synchronous and asynchronous); in-person clinical training sites are located across the Twin Cities metro area.
Students are admitted to the University on a pre-Radiation Therapy track to begin prerequisite and liberal arts courses in the fall, spring or summer terms. After enrollment, a separate application is required to be admitted into the Radiation Therapy major sequence; students will work with their academic advisor to complete the major application process. Please note that admission as a pre-Radiation Therapy student does not guarantee progression into the Radiation Therapy major.
In addition to the application form and transcripts, students are required to provide documentation of 12 hours of observation/shadowing in a radiation therapy clinic or department. The Social Work bachelor’s degree program is open to all students; no previous coursework or credential is required.
The Social Work program is offered in a fully online format. For women interested in a daytime, campus-based program (or for international women seeking F-1/visa-eligible enrollment) please review the Social Work program in our College for Women.

If you are interested in taking one or more undergraduate courses without committing to a degree, or if you need to complete specific prerequisite courses in preparation for graduate school, .
After your form is submitted, an admission counselor will connect with you to discuss which courses you’re interested in – they can help you determine whether the courses are available in our College for Adults or College for Women, when the courses may be offered in a future term, and what the application process will be. Please note:
- some undergraduate courses may not be open for non-degree enrollment
- non-degree students pay the same tuition rate as degree-seeking students, and earn college-level credit
- non-degree enrollment is not eligible for financial aid*
*individuals completing prerequisite courses for a graduate program may be eligible for financial aid, depending on the number of credits being completed within a 12-month period. Please consult with an admission counselor for more information.
If you wish to change your status to undergraduate degree-seeking after starting classes, you must complete the official application procedures through the College for Adults admission office. Admission as a non-degree-seeking student does not guarantee admission as a degree-seeking student.
Non-degree and Prerequisite students do not use the standard College for Adults application form. After you have connected with an admission counselor and are ready to apply for admission, a separate application form link will be provided for you.
